Most believe that Life promises light, bliss, and wonder. Death scares most with its shadow of mortality, darkness, and destruction. But what if those may be, if not lies, just facets of the complicated entities that bookend our existence? Life does not mock Death, but feeds it. Death is not the cessation of Life, but an alteration of existence. What would you do if faced with either truth?
An international galley of authors brings us a second repast of tales featuring the complex relationship between Life, Death, and humanity. From the supernatural to the sublime, these writers, both novitiates and accomplished, serve up a banquet of speculative fiction across a wide spectrum of genres. Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths Volume II will continue to feed your craving for the fantastic.

Reviews for Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths Vol. II
Wonderfully and amazingly intense
“This is the second volume of an anthology that brings life and death in a new light. I read the first volume and was more than excited to read a new collection. First, I must say that I enjoyed each story that was within this collection, and all of the authors should be commended for their work. I can imagine the thought that it took to put these stories together in one collection. Life and death is not just black and white, but all the in-betweens, and as the title alludes, both are beautiful, but also full of lies and truths. I usually can pick one or two of my favorites of the book, but I enjoyed each one immensely. I’ve even reread all of the stories to make sure I didn’t miss something. Bonds are broken and bonds are reunited on the sides of life and death.”

“You have to love an anthology that can give you well written stories no matter what the genre is and it looks at important issues in addition to death such as love, religion and redemption.
Don’t let the idea that this anthology is about death keep you from reading it, there are some great stories here that will really make you think.”

“This collection is a recipe for a lost weekend as I found myself wanting to read “just one more” until by nearly midnight I had finished all sixteen, and yes, I went back to reread my favorites. Edited by Karen T. Newman, this banquet of wonderful stories draws you to course after course of excellent writing, fantastic ironies, amazing insights and delectable nuggets of human nature wound together by the complex flavors of life and death and what is in between – perfectly reflecting the “Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths” promised by the title. Anthologies are often a reflection of the curator as much as the writers included in them and the quality of writing and choice of stories add up to a book I will recommend to my friends and fellow bibliophiles without reservation.”
